Accessibility

Help Me Grow is committed to making our website accessible for all people. Our site has been built to meet current Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1 AA) and is regularly audited and updated to ensure its accessibility.

If you need assistance using our site, or have questions or concerns about its accessibility, please don't hesitate to contact us. If you encounter an accessibility issue, please let us know immediately and we will make all reasonable efforts to correct the problem.

Known Issues

Our website is made using Squarespace, which has several known accessibility issues that do not fully meet WCAG criteria. These issues are part of the Squarespace code, and are not editable by users. Squarespace is aware of these issues, and we hope that they will be resolved in a future release.

  • Some elements have a [tabindex] value greater than 0: this is found on the “Skip to Content” link for screen readers (or when you browse using your keyboard tab keys). Though flagged by Google Lighthouse, it does not appear that this issue is negatively impacting the browsing experience—tabbed navigation appears to function normally. If you experience difficulty with tabbed browsing, please contact us with details.

  • Links do not have a discernible name: this is flagging the First 5 Butte County logo in the site footer for not having the appropriate text descriptions for screen readers. This image is confirmed to have alternate text (“alt text”), which meets the WCAG criteria.

  • ARIA attributes do not match their roles: this is found on the forms used on our Contact Us and Refer Now pages. These forms are a Squarespace feature. We are unable to edit this form code; Squarespace has been made aware of the issue.
